ABOUT SARAH:
Hi, I’m Sarah!
Growing up in Saskatchewan and attending university in Toronto has given me a broad perspective on how everyone is shaped by their unique experiences. Throughout my adolescence and young adulthood, I trained and competed in national-level trampoline gymnastics, which influenced both my passion for movement and my interest in supporting athletes with their mental health.
After completing my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Toronto, I transitioned into the field of mental health and social services, which led me to pursue a Master of Social Work at UBC Okanagan. My decision to pursue graduate studies came from my desire to provide deeper individual support than I was able to provide in community-based roles. Over the past 5 years, my education and experience have included school-based counselling, mental health and substance use counselling, and family-based resource navigation.
Aside from counselling, I love spending time outside or being active (most often, both at the same time!) You’ll probably find me out for a run, at a Pilates class, going for a hike, or sipping a matcha at a local coffee shop.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about me and my approach to practice. If what I’ve shared resonates with you, I’d love to connect and chat more about your goals for therapy!
My Areas of Focus:
Life transitions & personal identity
Relationship challenges
Stress & anxiety
Perfectionism & people pleasing
Boundaries & communication
Emotional regulation
Nervous system regulation & burnout
Athletic performance & sport psychology
I’m a counsellor who takes a collaborative, values-based approach to help you build tools and self-awareness as you navigate life transitions, relationship changes, and self-discovery. In our work together, I’ll support you in exploring your personal values, goals, and identity.
As a therapist, I view you as the expert of your own experience, and see it as my role to encourage reflection, exploration, and clarity as you move through life and work towards your goals. It’s important to me that I meet you where you’re at and follow your lead through the therapeutic process.
Our sessions together will mainly be talk therapy-based, and I will also incorporate skills-based practices so that you walk away feeling more confident as you navigate life’s challenges. My approach to counselling is based on both cognitive modalities and body-based work, and I draw from modalities including CBT, ACT, and DBT, while also leaning on an understanding of the nervous system and polyvagal-informed approaches. My goal is to empower you to live the fullest version of your life, whatever that may look like.
